The Value of Volunteering!

We kicked off the pleasant weather and the second quarter with volunteering. On April 6, 2024, we visited the MVGYOSZ Guide Dog Training Center to help them in preparing for their event on April 20.

We were excited for Saturday morning, when we set off for Csepel with a carpooling solution and bringing along some snacks. After a brief orientation and task assignment, we rolled up our sleeves and started working: gardening, pruning, planting, and even washing the windows. We put away the spades and rakes for the afternoon to have a picnic in the garden and have a good chat with each other.

The Joy of Volunteering

Our unexpected but welcome reward was the chance to attend a guide dog show as a token of appreciation for our help.

During our time there, we learned from the staff how a guide dog is trained, what aspects play a role during training, and what makes a dog suitable for this kind of job. Additionally, we also talked about what happens to the dogs who do start training, but in the end prove to be unfit for service, and the do’s and don’ts of assisting a visually impaired person if you meet them in public.

Moreover, we had the opportunity to step into the shoes (or rather, glasses) of individuals with different vision difficulties. By using simulation glasses, we gained insight into how they perceive the world that allowed us to see life through their perspective.

Volunteering in the Long Term

This year, we’ve committed ourselves to supporting nonprofit organizations through voluntary efforts as part of our social responsibility framework.

Corporate volunteering, helping others outside of the workplace, in achieving their public benefit goals. The manual and/or intellectual work done for a nobler purpose has double benefit: The members of our team are united, and we can bring joy to those to whom we lend our help.

We’ re already looking forward to our next opportunity to volunteer; we welcome initiatives on which organization/institution we could help as a team!

Once again, we would like to thank the MVGYOSZ – Guide Dog Training Center for the kind reception, the presentation and the chance to actively participate in their daily tasks.
